Safe Usage Guidelines
Mounting the Wimpel
The wimpel should be mounted according to the manufacturer’s instructions, choosing the correct location on the mast (at the top or front). Incorrect mounting may affect the accuracy of the readings and the stability of the device.
Ensure that all mounting elements are properly tightened and secured to prevent accidental detachment of the wimpel while sailing.
Using the Wimpel
The wimpel is a precise wind indicator that operates within the range of 0.8 to 40 knots. Avoid exposing the wimpel to conditions exceeding its specifications, as this may cause damage.
While using the wimpel, ensure that it is clean and free of any obstacles that could interfere with its operation (e.g., debris on the surface or mechanical wear).
Regular Inspection Before Use
Checking the Condition of the Wimpel
Before each use, check if the wimpel is damaged. Pay special attention to:
Damage to the material (carbon and epoxy),
Damage to the mountings or mounting components,
Whether the wimpel is clean and free from contaminants that could affect its performance.
Calibration
Although the wimpel is factory calibrated, regularly check its precision, especially after long-term use or exposure to extreme conditions. If you have any doubts about the accuracy of the readings, contact the manufacturer.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning the Wimpel
The wimpel should be regularly cleaned to remove contaminants such as sea salt, sand, or dust that could affect its operation. Use a soft cloth and mild cleaning agents to avoid damaging the surface.
Avoid harsh detergents or aggressive chemicals that may affect the wimpel’s material.
Storage
Store the wimpel in a dry and cool place, away from heat sources and sunlight. Avoid storing the wimpel in areas exposed to high temperatures, as this could impact the durability of the materials.
Emergency Situations
Damage to the Wimpel
If you notice any damage, such as cracks in the material, loose mountings, or contamination affecting the readings, stop using it immediately. Do not use a damaged wimpel to avoid incorrect wind readings, which could affect sailing safety.
If the wimpel is severely damaged, contact the manufacturer for repair or replacement.
