Safe Use Guidelines
Purpose
The Harken whistle is intended for signaling during sailing and in emergency situations.
Use the whistle exclusively for its intended purpose – it is not a toy or a device for non-signaling uses.

Proper Use
Keeping the Whistle Ready
Keep the whistle in an easily accessible place, such as attached to a life jacket, belt, or in a pocket, so it can be quickly used in an emergency.
Use a lanyard or carabiner to avoid accidentally losing the whistle.
Avoiding Entanglement: If using a lanyard, make sure it is the proper length and does not pose a risk of entanglement or getting caught on boat equipment.
Use in Emergency Situations
In the event you need to get attention or request help, blow the whistle loudly several times.
The whistle can be used to give signals in accordance with international maritime rules (e.g., three short blasts – requesting help).
Hearing Protection
Avoid using the whistle too close to your ears, as it may cause hearing damage.
Do not direct the whistle at another person's ear.

Regularly rinse the whistle with clean water to remove salt, sand, or other debris.
