Safety Instructions for Steering Components of Racing and Olympic Dinghies 

Safe Use Guidelines
Proper Use and Installation

Use the steering components exclusively for their intended purpose, i.e., for controlling the dinghy during racing or recreational sailing.
Ensure that all steering components (rudder, rudder stock, tiller, tiller extension) are correctly attached and adjusted to the type of dinghy they are used with.
Always check that the rudder stock is properly connected to the rudder and that no play is present. Play in the system can affect control of the boat, which could be dangerous during maneuvers.
Before starting your sailing, ensure the tiller is securely attached and that no looseness is present. An unsecured tiller can detach, presenting a risk while steering.
Injury Prevention

Steering components may have sharp edges. Exercise particular care when installing and handling them to avoid cuts.
During maneuvers on the water, ensure no part of your body comes into contact with the sharp edges of the steering components, as this could cause injuries, especially during sudden tacks or course changes.
Regular Checks Before Use
Condition of Steering Components
Rudder: Before each use, check the condition of the rudder, paying attention to cracks, dents, or signs of material wear. A damaged rudder may affect the stability and handling of the boat.
Rudder Stock: Ensure that the rudder stock is securely attached to the rudder and shows no signs of wear, such as cracks in the material or loosening parts.
Tiller: Check that the tiller is not cracked and that no signs of wear or friction are present in the mechanism. Ensure smooth movement.
Tiller Extension: Ensure the tiller extension is properly fitted and secured in the correct points to prevent disconnection during use.
Cleaning and Maintenance
After each use in water, particularly saltwater, thoroughly rinse all steering components (rudder, rudder stock, tiller, tiller extension) with fresh water to remove salt, sand, or other contaminants.
Regularly lubricate moving parts (e.g., rudder stock mechanisms and tiller) to ensure smooth operation and minimize wear. Use lubricants suitable for marine conditions.
Store steering components in a dry place to prevent corrosion, especially if made from metals prone to rusting.
Emergency Situations
In case of damage to any steering component (e.g., a broken rudder or damaged rudder stock), immediately cease use and replace the damaged part. Using damaged steering components may lead to loss of control over the dinghy.
If you notice that the tiller or tiller extension is loosening or not working properly, immediately perform repairs or replace the damaged part.
During races or long passages, carry spare steering components (e.g., an additional tiller or rudder repair kit) to avoid emergency situations.
Additional Tips
Steering Control: Always ensure you have full control over the rudder movement while steering. In emergency situations, respond quickly and precisely to avoid dangerous situations on the water.
Installation and Removal: When installing or removing steering components, use the appropriate tools. Do not force connections that do not fit properly, as this may cause damage to the parts.
Contact in Case of Problems
If you notice any manufacturing defects or damage to the steering component, contact the manufacturer or point of sale. Do not modify the steering components yourself in a way that could affect their performance and safety.
